Hello hello and welcome to the Rewired for Good podcast.
I’m glad you found it, I’m glad you’re here.
My name is Yasmina, people call me Yas. I’ve been many things, I am still many things, among them an aid worker, a business owner, a radio journalist, a certified coach and… I’m also a mom… and I guess now I’m also your podcast host!
I’ve been wanting to do this podcast for ages, because for the past decade or so I’ve been on a quest of sorts to figure stuff out. Stuff like life, other people, how to improve myself, success, failure, and emotions also was a really big one for me.
And for that, I’ve read a lot of awesome books, I’ve listened to hours and hours of podcasts, I’ve taken classes, I follow the advice and teachings of some of the world’s best thought leaders, and basically I'm obsessed with anything that has to do with psychology and how our bodies and our brains work. And I’ve learned some really cool, useful stuff. Things I wish I’d known much much sooner in my life, and I want to help spread the word.
The things I’ll talk about here can really help you feel better in general, take better care of yourself, reprioritize what you want out of your life -- even though you’re out there trying to reduce the suffering of other people, often in challenging living and working conditions.
So maybe you’re in a long-distance relationship because of your job, and that of course brings complications. Or you’re struggling to be in a relationship at all.
Or you’re facing drama at the office. Your colleague is being a total jerk. Been there, done that.
The project is falling apart, you’re overworked, you see no light at the end of the tunnel that is your never-ending to-do list.
Maybe your R&R plans aren’t working out. Or your contract might not get renewed.
Maybe the security situation is deteriorating and you’re afraid and you don’t really want to say it out loud.
Or you’re sick and there’s no reliable health-care services in your duty station and you’re wondering how you’re going to get out of this one.
All these, are situations that are the regular stuff that aid worker life is made of and we are not necessarily mentally and emotionally equipped to handle well…
So we’re going to talk about all of that. This space, this podcast, is for that.
It’s in no way meant to replace therapy though, so if you are suffering from a mental illness you’ll want to seek proper medical care. But here, you’ll find tools that are tried, they're tested, they work, they’re immediately available to you and my mission is to make sure you know about them.
So that’s my promise: I’ll be showing up, every week. We talk about concrete ways to take wherever you’re at to the next level, no matter where you are geographically or metaphorically. And no matter what you have access to right now, you won’t need fancy stuff, no external solutions.
We’re going to keep it fun and inspiring, even through the toughest times, and also short because I know you’re busy.
And we’re going to keep it concrete and down to earth, because while I sometimes find myself believing in magic, I really really don’t like to rely on it to build my life and control my emotions.
So again, welcome to this podcast. Make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss out on any new episodes.
If you like what you hear, please share it with friends and colleagues so they can also be helped by this stuff.
Thank you for tuning in.
Let’s go.
